RUN MORE EFFICIENTLY. GO FURTHER. GO FASTER
1:1 Running Technique Analysis with an IAAF Level 3 Coach and Physiotherapist — Gold Coast's most comprehensive technique coaching service.
YOUR TECHNIQUE COULD BE HOLDING YOU BACK
Most runners focus entirely on mileage and pace — and ignore the single biggest factor influencing their performance and injury risk: how they actually run.
Inefficient running technique costs you energy with every stride. It creates compensations that quietly build into injuries. And it puts a ceiling on how fast and how far you can go — no matter how hard you train.
The good news? Technique can be coached. And the improvements can be immediate.
Drawing on current movement science, biomechanics research, and over 30 years of coaching and racing experience, Dave provides a detailed, evidence-based analysis of your running technique — and gives you the tools to change it.
A COMPLETE PICTURE OF HOW YOU RUN
✅ Running History. The session starts with a detailed history of your running - your goals, any injury issues or injury history, your current training.
✅ Slow Motion Video Analysis. Next, your running is filmed and analysed using slow motion video — giving Dave and you a precise picture of your running technique - posture, breathing, cadence, foot strike, upper and lower body movement patterns, and pacing.
✅ Biomechanical Assessment. Based on your history and running form, a targetted assessment of your unique biomechanics will identify areas of weakness, inflexibility, overcompensation, and asysmetry that may be contributing to performance limitations or injury risk (as well as potentially impacting your day-to-day life - for example causing lower back pain).
✅ Technique Correction. Now the run really starts! You will learn to modify your running technique with targeted drills and cues designed to address the specific technique issues identified in your assessment — practical, immediately applicable, and tailored entirely to you.
✅ Written Report & Recommendations. A detailed written summary of your technique recommendations, and a personalised exercise program to take away and implement in your training.
✅ Follow-up Sessions. After the initial technique session, additional follow-up sessions are used to really fine-tune your technique.

WHAT HAPPENS IN YOUR SESSION
RUNNING HISTORY & GOALS
STEP 1: Your session begins with a face-to-face consultation where you can describe your running history and goals. Dave will ask you detailed questions about your training to help build a picture of how best to tailor your technique coaching.
ANALYSIS & ASSESSMENT
STEP 2: Dave films you running using slow motion video from multiple angles. Together you'll review the footage in real time — seeing exactly what your technique looks like and understanding what it means for your performance and injury risk.
DRILLS, CUES & COACHING
STEP 3: Specific cues and drills are used to help you learn the new running technique simply and efficiently. You’ll also be taught specific strength and flexibility exercises to improve your movement patterns. A written report will be provided to help you with your practice at home.

TESTIMONIALS
'“I have been working with Dave since May this year and could not be happier! I came to Dave with a suspected stress fracture in my foot and an old hamstring injury with a goal to complete a half marathon. We worked around the injuries and with Dave's guidance I managed to tick off that initial goal. Since then, we have worked on improving my running technique, as well continuing to work on rehabbing old injuries. Dave's expertise and support has been instrumental in my success. In the last 3 month's I have improved my half marathon time by 30 minutes, hit multiple PB's and am now running completely pain free! I am so excited to continue to working together on some big goals. If you have ever thought about hiring a coach and didn't know where to start, I can highly recommend getting in touch with Dave!!”

“I’ve been with Dave for 2 years and since then, my running capacity has evolved to a whole new level.
We started with a Running Technique session where he used video to check my form and showed me how to run better. He then helped me prepare for my first marathon which gave step by step details on how to go about each week such as speed sessions, hill sessions, tempo runs and much more.
If you’re looking for a coach that doesn’t sell bullshit training routines, then I highly suggest Dave Coombs 😊”.

COMMON TECHNIQUE QUESTIONS
Q: Do I need to be an experienced runner?
Not at all — technique coaching is valuable at every level. Whether you're just starting out or are an experienced competitor, understanding and improving how you run will make you more efficient, more resilient, and your running more enjoyable.
Q: What should I wear and bring?
Wear your regular running gear and your usual running shoes. If you have more than one pair of shoes you regularly run in, bring them both — footwear can be an important part of the assessment.
Q: Will I be able to change my technique straight away?
Most runners notice immediate improvement in specific aspects of their technique during the session itself. Lasting change takes consistent practice, but most people will notice permanent changes within 4-8 weeks.
Q: How many follow-up sessions will I need?
This varies between individuals. Some runners feel confident implementing the changes independently after a single session and return only occasionally to check progress. Others benefit from more regular follow-ups, particularly during periods of high training load or when working on complex technique changes.
Q: Can technique coaching help with my injury?
Often yes — many running injuries have a technique component. As a physiotherapist, Dave is uniquely placed to assess the relationship between your movement patterns and your injury, and to address both simultaneously where appropriate.
Q: Where are sessions held?
All technique coaching sessions are held at Physiologic, 334 Scottsdale Drive, Robina on the Gold Coast.
